Tire Recycling

Yellowknife Tire Recycling

Tires are a very problematic waste item in small communities, as they cannot be landfilled in their true form and are very challenging and expensive to recycle, especially due to the low volume that Yellowknife’s small population produces annually. In the winter of 2021, Kavanaugh began providing a remedy to this problem by offering a new recycling stream for tire waste.

To assist our communities with tire recycling, Kavanaugh offers two choice methods of collection for our clients. Option one: For one price, the customer is provided with an appropriately sized roll-off bin that will be emptied on an on-call basis; or Option two: Clients can deliver the tires to our new location at 101 Merlin Road and will be charged per tire, for less than the current tire tipping fees at the City of Yellowknife Solid Waste Facility. This service is available Territory-wide.

The tires collected are stockpiled by Kavanaugh and then shipped to an Alberta-based certified tire recycling plant where they are 100% recycled.
